Questions from Parents
What is the Girls State program all about?
It is an intensive program where your daughter will not only learn, but put into
action the very principles and ideas of government by doing, while living with
other young women from across the state of Georgia. This program is a gift
to the young women of today from the Department of Georgia, American Legion Auxiliary.
How do I contact my daughter while she is at Girls State?
You may write to the following address:
Girls State - Your Daughter
c/o Continuing Education Center
Georgia Southern University
PO Box 8124
Statesboro, GA 30460
Each room has
a phone jack and your daughter may bring a phone and calling card to contact
you.
What if we have a family emergency?
We have a number for you to call in an emergency - 912-688-2039. If no one can
be reached at that number then call 912-681-5555 (The Continuing Education
Office) during working hours or call Campus Security at 912-681-5234.
What if my daughter gets sick or hurt at Girls State?
She will be given prompt medical attention (we have a nurse on staff) and if it
is determined she needs emergency medical care, she will be taken to the local
hospital.
Will my daughter be supervised the entire week?
Yes. Your daughter will be assigned to a mythical city, and each city has
a counselor. We also have other staff members who assist with Girls State
who help in supervising and guiding the girls throughout the week.
